This volume of essays gives the reader the opportunity to become acquainted with works which without doubt belong to the canon of twentieth century Polish literature like, for example, the DIARY OF A JOURNEY TO AUSTRIA AND GERMANY from 1945. The plan for the book FROM BERDICHEV TO LAFFITTE was developed by the essayist towards the end of his life. However, it was not published in the form that he had intended.
